End of NaNoWriMo Wrap Up

It is the last day of National Novel Writing Month and I have to sadly say I did not make the 50K goal. I topped out at about 32K. However, I am not sad only because 1,067 average words a day is a pretty good record for me. Also, I managed to write every single day! I may not have posted every day or posted everything I wrote but that is still awesome. The following is a recap of what I got accomplished this month.

I completed three fics. “The Perks of Unlocked Doors” featuring Sam Winchester and Sheriff Stilinski, a meet-cute featuring an embarrassed by his dad Stiles. I finally finished my Boromir lives because Sam becomes the King of Hell Lord of the Rings Supernatural crossover “The Destiny of a King.” Wow, say that five times fast. And last but not least, I whipped out a Good Omens plot what plot fic “Exuviate” starring snake Crowley and dirty little hedonist Aziraphale.

I posted two new chapters for the Person of Interest Supernatural crossover “Searching the Voids.” I’m about twenty per cent done with (what I hope is) the last chapter so with any luck I will finish it in December. “Can’t Even Sit Straight,” the Alec Trevelyan/Gareth Mallory love story got another chapter. I’m going to revisit Goldeneye and Legends here again soon, maybe watch a few Ralph Fiennes movies. I think I have The Constant Gardener queued up somewhere. This will probably not get finished in December but I will get at least get another chapter out before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, I added to my WIPs again and started two new Star Trek fics. For the Adventures of the Sailing Ship Sam Series, I paired Sam with Leonard McCoy for I’m a librarian, not a… It’s a time travel fic and there may be some demon blood involved, so stay tuned. The other one features my number one ship McCoy/Chekov, and it’s called What Happens in Vegas. I’m excited about this one because it’s got the classic ‘aliens made them do it’ trope and something you would definitely find in Las Vegas, the ‘accidental marriage’ trope.

On an end note, I did do some binge watching this month and I’m back on a Karl Urban characters kick. Now I have a bunch of new plot bunnies because I watched both Doom and all of the new Star Trek movies. I have to say, I’m a little annoyed with FOX television because I also rewatched Almost Human and it was fantastic. For everything that I’ve read so far, it seemed like it was a popular series and the ratings were not bad. It was a shame they ended it after one season. I am sure the story would have picked up in a second season if they had completed some of the story arcs hinted at in the first. However, it does leave a lot of ideas to work with since the world building was fairly vague.

Anyhoo, to all my fellow Wrimos, I hope your words multiplied like rabbits and you made your 50K. For all of us Wrimos who didn’t, you tried and that was admirable in itself!

NaNoWriMo Week Two

So as I finish out week two I am distressed to say that I did not catch up over the weekend. It was a relief to have two extra days off but not enough to make up the 7K I had fallen behind. At least I am only 3K behind now. I’m confident that even if I don’t reach the end goal that I will have at least spent some time writing everyday, which will be an amazing accomplishment for me.

This week I posted “The Perks of Unlocked Doors” which was the Teen Wolf Supernatural crossover starring Sam and Sheriff Stilinski. I’m veering into the Star Trek fandom again, despite the fact that my tumblr is almost seventy-five per cent Lord of the Rings at the moment. Due to that, I started the Star Trek Supernatural crossover, “I’m a librarian, not a…” McCoy is hands down my favourite character, and since I’m not pairing him with Pavel this time, the navigator is going to have a cameo of some sort. The story was initially going to be a one shot but I wanted to post something so I ended up breaking it into chapters. Chapters one and two are posted and I am working on the third. It’s standing at three at the moment but the plot seems to keep running away from me and finding more dimensions.

The goals for this coming week are to finish the Star Trek fic and finish my Person of Interest fic, “Searching the Voids”. Hopefully, I will also have time to start a new[ish] show I have discovered called “The Alienist.” It’s been a while since I’ve developed a new hyperfixation. The schedule and the Sam prompt list have been updated if anyone wants to check it out. Anyhoo, may the words multiply like rabbits for all of y’all fellow Wrimos, good luck and keep going!

NaNoWriMo Week One

Only going to post short updates during NaNo, also “Sorry!” forgot to post this on Sunday.

So, week one has passed and what a week it was. Between the US election, where my state of Nevada literally infuriated the world for a day and a half before GA and PA surprised everyone, destiel becoming canon then promptly pulling a bury your gays, and even more fake Russian news, I have to say that the insanity only got me slightly behind. On this wonderful day of the sun, I am going to catch up, I am going to get ahead, and I am going to post something.

I think my biggest problem at this point is that I’ve plotted almost everything, so in my head, I am done. I primarily write fanfiction for myself so my brain is saying “you’ve finished the story so move on.” I’m trying to convince it at the moment that we need the exposition. I actually need to put down the details and not daydream about the entire thing in my head.

I’ve been jumping around today and so far I’ve gotten a bit of “Searching the Voids” done and about 3/5ths of the still as yet untitled one shot for Noah Stilinski/Sam Winchester completed. I’d really appreciate title suggestions on that one. Anyhoo, may the words multiply like rabbits for all of y’all fellow Wrimos, good luck and keep going!

National Novel Writing Month 2020

The last time I completed a NaNoWriMo was in 2012, so here is to hoping for success this time around. I think I am in a better position this year than previous ones. My work is finally less stressful now that I have a different boss. I’m exceedingly better at planning than I was in previous years and I’ve begun to prioritise my writing time. So I’m planning to get my 50K spread between two large stories, at least two other WIPs, plus a few one shots. The goal stands at about 1,500-2,500 words a chapter and if I do the standard 1,667 a day that should be a chapter every one, to one and a half days. Check out this tag on my tumblr if you want sporadic updates on how I’m doing.

My Alec Trevelyan/Sam Winchester soulmate fic, “A Matter of Dates” is going to be between eight and ten chapters. I have it vaguely outlined and various snippets of a few chapters already written. Chapter one is published and chapter two will set the groundwork for the timeline to the present. I’m going with the tropes of the older soulmate stops ageing until the younger catches up with them, and James Bond is a name that is passed on to the new 007. I’m pretty much ignoring the Supernatural canon just because I don’t want to write the apocalypse arc. I might have a few run-ins with things here and there but Sam will be pretty much removed from the supernatural world as a whole.

The Alec Trevelyan/Gareth Mallory story, “Can’t Even Sit Straight” will be about ten chapters. It’s been plotted and most of the chapters outlined. I’m a bit excited for this one only because I want it to be a bit light-hearted and mushy with a side of comedy and dash of espionage. I’m still trying to decide if I want to retcon Spectre or let it be and make Bond beg Q for forgiveness after running away with you know who. I feel like the latter option might make the story too angsty, especially when they are not the main pairing.

There are two other current WIPs on the schedule. “Context is Key” featuring 00Q/Sam, I only have two chapters left with absolutely no outline. I feel it should be relatively easy to get through this one but it seems like my motivation is lacking for this particular fic. The other is “Searching the Voids”, my Person of Interest Reese/Finch/Sam endeavour. This also has two chapters left and I have written a bit in both but the rest of it is a jumbled mess of ideas I am trying to fit together. If I have time I would also like to finish “Into the Frying Pan,” my Criminal Minds crossover that sorely needs the first chapter rewritten to make the following chapters more coherent.

Since I have the first chapter of the first two fics already written and posted, I am going to pad my goals with some extra one shots that I will determine towards the end of the month. So once I reach that point I will be pantsing it. I will definitely be posting a Good Omens snake Crowley fic that I only have to polish it up a bit. It’s been languishing on my computer for months now in need of editing. The rest of the stories I am considering writing will be from my Adventures of the Sailing Ship Sam Winchester series. There is a Teen Wolf Supernatural crossover with Sam and Sheriff Stilinski based off of this prompt, “I broke into your house thinking it was mine because I was drunk af and now you are making me breakfast.” I’ve also got a Star Trek Supernatural crossover, featuring Sam and Leonard McCoy. It will be a time travel fic to the future for Alexandria Organisation Sam, wherein science clashes with the supernatural. The last one I am thinking about is also the least plotted out of the three. It’s a Doctor Who crossover with Rose and the Metacrisis Doctor. Trying to figure out what I want to do with it since it a bunch of vignettes that I want to string together into some sort of coherent story.

I am thinking of adding a bunch of WIPs to my current list of writing. I have a bunch of stories where I’ve finished the first chapter or that the first chapter just needs a bit of polish. However, I am loath to contribute more unfinished works to my catalogue. I know there are those of you out there that click that option “Complete Works Only.” I happen to be one of them so I feel like I might be spinning my wheels posting unfinished fics. I appreciate any feedback on this – Yes, moar fic! No – please finish your current stuff! or flavours of those answers to that effect if possible.

I’ve updated the schedule and the prompt list for the SS Sam series if anyone wants to suggest some titles for the works listed above. Just a note, WIP Wednesday is going on hiatus until NaNo is over unless I get too excited and simply must share something. Plot bunnies abound, until next time y’all!
